Meditation and Pregnancy

Meditation is a tool for rediscovering the body’s own inner intelligence. Practiced for thousands of years, it’s not about forcing the mind to be quiet, it’s finding the silence that’s already there and making it a part of your life.

Practicing meditation on a daily basis in pregnancy can help you to:

  • Manage stress
  • Build emotional bonds with baby
  • Lower blood pressure, reducing risk of pre-eclampsia
  • Increase endorphins during delivery (less pain)

Miracles in first trimester pregnancy

My great purpose in life at the moment is loving the growing human being in my belly.  16 weeks into my second pregnancy, I am feeling so excited for this opportunity to be part of the creation of life. I am truly grateful to be a woman.

The main reason for this blog post is really to share with you some of the miracles that have been happening to me during this pregnancy.

If you are pregnant and in your first trimester you may know about some of the following common symptoms: fatigue, nausea, morning sickness and mood swings. These symptoms can be pretty intense for women and they can be overwhelming.

In this pregnancy, I have experienced these symptoms but they always disappeared during meditation. On top of that, they were significantly reduce in the hours following my meditations. Overall my symptoms were milder.

This may seem like coincidences to some of you but from my perspective and my experience I am absolutely convinced that this is no coincidence. It’s a miracle! Meditation has positively impacted my pregnancy.

Since many of my first trimester symptoms were medium to mild to sometimes non-existent, I have been able to put my full loving attention on the beautiful baby inside of me.  And, I have been experiencing compassion for myself along the way. I can’t begin to tell you how great this feels. This is certainly very different from my first pregnancy where I felt completely overwhelmed by nausea and fatigue (in the first trimester).

As a woman, a mom and a meditation coach I strongly encourage you to meditate during pregnancy. You will gain so many benefits from a regular meditation practise.

Creative vs. Reactive

I have been planning an amazing meditation and yoga retreat in the last couple of weeks and I am flying with great inspiration. Simply put, I am being creative and not reactive.

In a recent coaching call with my wonderful CTI coach Beth Shapiro I was sharing about this retreat. I couldn’t contain myself. The words were abundant, my smile obvious, my passion intense and everything was flowing so naturally.

What Beth told me was: “It seems to me that you are being creative, not reactive”. She was totally right.

When I am in the flow and I am being creative, the source of my ideas is deep, strong and undeniable. It’s a time of great excitement where my energy is high. Time flies!  Have you ever experienced this?

I am sure you have…

It’s so different than reacting to circumstances for example. It’s as though when we are reacting there are automatically limits to possibilities. The energy is more constricted. True passion and inspiration is nearly impossible when you are reacting. However, they are at the core of the experience of creativity.

Also, I am without hesitation connecting my renewed inspiration and creativity to my meditation practise. This past month I have given my meditation practise more attention. I spent a week with Deepak Chopra and 300 other meditators at a Chopra Centre Program called Seduction of Spirit in Whistler. Connecting to the source naturally brings forth in daily activities qualities such as inspiration and creativity.

Saying YES to yourself

I was reminded today how important to say YES to myself.

What do I mean by that?

So many times in my life I have done what others consider the right thing to do. I have acted according to other people’s values or beliefs. What I have noticed over time is that the more I base my decisions on other people or what I think is “required” of me the more suffering I create for myself. It’s actually in beautiful moments of clarity that I connect with my deepest desires that I spontaneously feel alive.

How do I connect to myself and what happens when I do?

Before each of my daily meditations I ask myself: What do I really want? Over the course of time, new answers arise (in meditation or outside of meditation) and I align to my soul’s deepest desire more and more.  Meditation brings clarity.

Today, I had the privilege to share Primordial Sound Meditation with an amazing man. I noticed how much joy sharing this program brings into my heart. I realized that without several key decisions to align to my soul’s purpose today would have never been so rich. I am so grateful.

Many of the decisions I made required courage. They required of me to leave jobs, let go of the comfortable salary and benefits, resign from great international companies and ultimately choose uncertainty over predictability.  I am so glad I did because I feel more myself today than I ever felt before.

Which brings us to the question “who I am?”… but that’s a whole other post.
